Meet the Governors

Bovington Governing Body

The Governing Body at Bovington is strongly committed to promoting high standards and expectations and ensuring that every child gets the best possible start to their education, we are an enthusiastic team of volunteers, who meet regularly. Governors help to provide a safe, nurturing and caring environment in the school and promote tolerance and respect for people of all faiths and cultures. We understand that through our work we can play an important role in preparing our children positively for life in modern Britain.

Our key functions include:

* Setting the vision and strategic direction of the school

* Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school

* Ensuring financial resources are well spent

* Carrying out all our statutory duties such as safeguarding.

We currently have 8 governors in place that fall into four categories, staff, community, local authority and parent governors. The board is headed up by a Chair and a Vice Chair.

What does this mean in practice?

The Headteacher of the school is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school. The role of the Governing Body is to provide strategic management, and to act as a ‘critical friend’, challenging and supporting the work of the Headteacher and the staff.

School governors should act as a team and bring perspective from all walks of life. We work with all staff and the Local Authority to ensure that all children have access to the very best educational opportunities possible.

The school has a delegated budget to cover salaries, running costs, maintenance and equipment; the Governing Body is responsible for the management of this budget. Governors also manage staff levels and employment issues, appoint new members of staff and a Headteacher, ensuring that a broad and balanced curriculum is delivered, as well as monitoring health and safety and the management of the premises.

Governors are part of the leadership team of the school and OFSTED report on the effectiveness of the Governing Body.

All members of the Governing Body visit regularly and spend time in the school.

The Governing Body meetings are clerked by a Local Authority clerk.

The Chair of the Governing Body can be contacted through the school office;
